"But when He has come--the Spirit of Truth--He will guide you into all the truth...and He will make known the future to you" (John 16:13 WNT)
God's word is so revealing about how that He wants His children to be always led by Him into His will and away from evil. That is why He has made so many ways possible for us to perceive His leading. Concerning the inward witness alone, the Holy Spirit can help our spirits to perceive what is ahead, or receive pointings or promptings or significations in our spirits.
The promptings of the Holy Spirit can be so emphatic most of the time. While you train your spirit and put it in the right condition, you could just be prompted about something you had ignored or something you've not even thought about before. Such timely prompting leads us especially from evil and disgrace, so we can be in God's will for our lives at all times. Amen.
Another way the inward witness could come to us is what we could call "Insight and Revelation" in our spirits. Revelation carries the idea of "unveiling". That is to say the Holy Spirit can witness to your spirit the right knowledge about something which had been "covered up" from you all this while. It could be something you've struggled to understand at school, or at the work place. It could be a bad side of a person you must avoid, it could even be what would make somebody not the right person for you in a godly relationship or marriage.
In 1 Peter 1 where divine significations were given to the people of old concerning the time of the Christ, mention is made also of revelation knowledge which God gave them to let them know that their prophecies were for our experience in these last days, and not theirs (1 Pet. 1:12). So God can unveil to you a required knowledge by His Holy Spirit in you. That is what Jesus said about the Holy Spirit in our main verse - "He will MAKE KNOWN the future to you". Isn't that wonderful?
A renowned man of God once shared a testimony of how God gave him insight into a language he never had any previous knowledge of. He spoke a word to this person in their language, a construction the person, though speaks that language, had never heard before. The Pastor said he just knew in his spirit that what he said was the right way of communicating what he wanted to. This man went to ask his kinsmen about the construction, and they wondered how learned the Pastor was in their language.
Friend, there is a place for insight and revelation knowledge in our spirits, as we connect to the witness of the Holy Spirit in us. That is one of the ways you can locate God's witness about circumstances in your life. Let's train our spirits on this divine course, and expect to be led by significations, insights and revelation in our spirits by the Holy Spirit. Amen.
