"A Call to Manifest God's Glory" - Lady Pastor Fletcher
Written by Victoria Tindaa & Randolph HackmannSunday 19th February, 2012 marked the 1st joint service for the University of Ghana Christian Community. There couldn’t have been any better place to place such awesome divine call on young believers, to manifest the Glory of God.
The preacher for this all important gathering was a Lady Pastor from the Lighthouse Chapel International, Mrs. Fletcher. And she spoke to the theme “Manifesting the Glory of God”. Pastor Fletcher related to the congregation many ways she believes Christians can manifest the glory of God. Mrs. Fletcher itemized physical appearance, academic work, speech, relationship and spiritual life as few of the various channels through which the world would see God’s glory in Christians. She however expressed disappointment at the rate of deteriorating standards in the lives of many Christians on campus.
Firstly, Mrs. Fletcher explained that the physical looks of a believer must reveal holiness and piety which are real Christian virtues. Many believers she said, lately dress provocatively which is a shame to Christianity. She condemned the misconception among the youth of today that their dressing must expose them to some extent, to make them look fashionable. Making referencing to 1 Peter 3:2, Lady Pastor Fletcher said that Christians should adorn their spirits with meekness and quietness which would reflect outwardly in their dressing as well.
The second area Christians could reveal God’s glory is through hard work; Mrs. Fletcher explained. God’s glory is manifested through our work as students. And since we have the mind of Christ, we are poised to excel with a little hard work. She admonished students to take advantage of the power of the Holy Ghost in our study, because it is not by the might or power of men, but God’s Spirit which brings excellence (Zechariah 4:6 / James 1:4; 4:8). Concluding on that point, she said that Christians should know how to redeem time and not be skewed towards attending Christian programmes only at the expense of their books.
Jesus said in Matthew 12:37 “For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned”. Mrs. Fletcher also explained that believers could glorify God with our speech, when our words are seasoned with salt. She noted that this place of “sound speech” is possible when we allow God’s word to dwell richly in us (Col. 3:16) and take over our lips as our primary voice of speech.
Another point Pastor Fletcher expounded was in the area of relationships. Fundamentally, she said that believers should not have unbelievers as their close friends. Yes they should be related to for the purposes of soul winning, but not for very close friendships since “evil communication (friendship or relationship)” corrupts good manners (1 Cor. 15:33), let alone for the purposes of marriage.
Concerning relationships, Mrs. Fletcher said that it was completely unacceptable for believers to engage in immorality for the simple reason of ‘going out’. Relationships should be genuine towards marriage, and not for selfish satisfactions, she added.
Pastor Fletcher’s final point on manifesting God’s glory was on the Christian’s spiritual life. She emphasized the importance of spending quality time with the Lord in prayers and in His word every day, as the means of growing up unto maturity in Christ. We must not overlook sin, and should cultivate an atmosphere which provokes our spirits to connect to God. She cited the kinds of music believers listen to, as a classic example. Furthermore, Mrs. Fletcher admonished believers to share the word of God dwelling in them richly, with other believers. Her very touching message really entered the hearts of many who gave their lives to Christ at the alter call. Many participants also seized on the divine opportunity to rededicate their lives to God, and I know it was all bliss in heaven and on earth as well.
