TITHING ON OUR TIME
“And he blessed him, and said, Blessed be Abram of the most high God, possessor of heaven and earth And blessed be the most high God, which hath delivered thine enemies into thy hand. And he gave him tithes of all” (Genesis 14:19-20 KJV).

The issue of tithing has been one of the most debated topics in the Christendom; the question has always been this ‘is tithing still applicable to the new testament church?’ Tithing may not be our focus today, yet we can share deep thoughts from the tithe life of the father of Faith.

The passage of our main text narrates the interaction which took place between Abraham and Melchizedek the priest of the most high. This was way back before God gave Moses instructions on tithing. The law was not yet put into effect. Abraham after rescuing his nephew Lot from enemies met Melchizedek priest of the Most High and gave him tithes of all. No body instructed Abraham to do what he did just like nobody instructed Adam as to what names he was supposed to give to the animals (Gen 2:19). Abraham was a Prophet (Gen 20:7) and I think he did it prophetically as an example of what we have to offer to God. Moses who lived so many years after Abraham instituted tithing as a command from God. Now if we in the Church age are commanded to walk in the steps of the faith of Abraham (Rom 4:12), then tithing is still very relevant and consistent with current truth revealed in scripture.

Most people ask how long they should pray and study the word of God. The answer may vary from different perspectives, but I strongly believe that if we could tithe on the time we have every day at our disposal, we are sure to see God’s blessings and glory significantly revealed in our lives.

What is a tenth of 24hours? At first thought you may say 2hours 40minutes but a good calculation will give us 2hours and 24minutes; that is about two and a half hours. How many Christians are able to give two and a half hours for prayer and the study of God’s word? No wonder we say Christianity is difficult and boring. Giving a tithe of our time (2hrs and 24minutes) to God is so refreshing. I cannot over emphasize how important it is for Christians to pay a tithe on their time. I can promise you that any believer, who can really pay such a tithe, will within one month see an unparalleled and significantly unprecedented growth in every area of his life. Spending time with God avails us for a rub off of his beauty and grace that can not be done any other way. Halleluiah!

God is calling for our attention and yet we are so busy attending to calls that do not profit. We have entangled ourselves with an avalanche of excuses that are avoidable. Just sit down quietly and begin to consider how you use you time everyday and you will realize how caught up you have been in things that are of less importance and yet you always in a hurry to leave you word and prayer closet.

Beloved, God is calling on us to at least pay a tithe on our time; otherwise death (carnality) will have the better part of us!

PRAYER
Dear Father, grant me insight into how I must redeem time to fellowship with you. Lord, help me to make time for you. Help me to pay at least a tithe of my time to you every day. In the name of Jesus. Amen.
