Day 3 - Main Talk III - Sex & Morality PDF Print E-mail

In the first and second main talks, Pastor Nyamekye spoke about the fact that the New Covenant far excels the old and that the old one was for a particular people in a particular place at a particular time but the new one is for all time, all places and all people. And even in the old covenant which is inferior now, after Moses had encountered the Shekinah glory of God, his face shown with so great a radiance that he had to veil it, otherwise his own colleagues and friends could not behold his face anymore than they could look at the sun. So then with those of us who are beholding the very face of Jesus, much more does our face radiate with the excellent glory and we are being transformed from glory to glory into the very image that we see, Jesus Christ, which work of transformation is done by the Holy Spirit as we yield to Him!

In the second talk, he attempted to talk about how to release this Spirit within us to bless other people. He mentioned that if we’d be able to release this Spirit, we ought to be so passionate about the fact that this gift is in us and we want other people to experience it. His second point was that we should understand the dynamics of the new birth and then position ourselves right so that the new man who is born in Christ would outgrow the old man. By this he said, we would not be carnal Christians; but our spirits would be strong enough to dominate the old and to release this Spirit to bless others.

His third point was that the new spirit we have is in a jar of clay (the soul and the body). And so the Holy Spirit would want to make cracks out of the jar so that the light would shine forth. He said that the Holy Spirit would use all kinds of methods to make us become like Jesus, to the extent that sometimes when we are not so spiritual, we may think that demons are buffeting us, yet it is the Holy Spirit in us working all things together for our good. Pastor Nyamekye also said that the good is nothing less than we being completely conformed to the image of Jesus Christ.

The fourth point he talked about was that God was not only interested in creating powerful spirits, but also pure ones – He is interested in pure and powerful men of God. “Rain water is supposed to be the purest water but if the container is not clean, when the water gets into the container, sometimes you cannot fetch it; and even when you do, others cannot drink it”. He said that the Holy Spirit through God’s word separates our recreated spirits from the carnal aspect of our souls so that our spirits dominate the soul. This he said is done by the entrance of ‘revelation’ – seeing yourself the way God sees you. His last point in the second talk was that for believers to be able to manifest the glory, we ought to practice the presence of God like Moses, Abraham, Enoch and the others, so we would exchange our strength with His strength and smell like God as the aroma of Christ.

His last talk was supposed to have been “Going after the glory”, but it did not seem good to the Holy Spirit for him to talk about it. “…It seems to me that the Holy Spirit did not permit me, that what we have received is enough so far as manifesting His Glory is concerned. The rest is left with you. When you go back home, look for the glory. Don’t look for the things in the hands of God, look for God Himself. And when you have him, you would have all that is in Him. I pray that the good Lord would bless you”.

Pastor Nyamekye then began to speak to the topic “Sex and Morality”. He started by saying that a few years back, the English dictionaries defined morality as “right and wrong based on belief” yet the dictionaries of today define morality just as “right and wrong”. Sex, he said was defined at least as “an intercourse between a male and a female”, but today sex is defined as “an intercourse between two mates”; it can be a man to a man, a lady to a lady, a human being to a beast; all are accepted in this supposed modern world. But Pastor said that what is going on in the present world does not matter; what matters is what you know and what you believe. We must hold on to what we believe and live it.

Pastor Nyamekye said that homosexuality was not just a sin as any other, but rather an abomination. Because it is only the devil who would try to undo what God has done and point it to God and ask God to look at it and know that men didn’t accept what He gave to them.

Every generation comes with its own challenges, but it will take the people of that same generation to deal with its own challenges. Pastor said that in their time, there was a group of people called ‘dariga people’, who are not very different from the ‘sakawa people’ in this generation. Daniel, Samuel and Joseph conquered their generations. And they conquered the dariga people of their time. In the same way, Pastor admonished that we in this generation are able and must conquer the sakawa people.

Pastor expressed dissatisfaction at the noise people make on ‘Post – modernism’ because he thinks that if the world is changing, it is only changing for the ageing; but those who are in the generation see it to be normal and are indeed able to change things in their dispensation.

Pastor Nyamekye reiterated that morality is right or wrong based on belief, cautioning believers not to allow the dictionary to change that meaning. Our belief system would give rise to our conduct, so that what we believe is what we do or speak (2 Cor. 4:13). Pastor said that the phrase “whosoever believes in Him” which is found in John 3:16 is a present continuous statement which has a beginning but will never end. This means that the day you believe in Jesus, you must continue to believe in Him. And if you believe in Him therefore, you must conduct yourself just as you have believed in Him (Col. 2:6). On this premise, Pastor Nyamekye said that the morality of believers is not determined by the dictionary, neither is it determined by the new age philosophy, but by what we belief.

He read from 1 Corinthians 6:12 – 14. “Everything is permissible for me— but not everything is beneficial. Everything is permissible for me— but I will not be mastered by anything. Food for the stomach and the stomach for food— but God will destroy them both. The body is not meant for sexual immorality, but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body. By his power God raised the Lord from the dead, and he will raise us also. Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ himself? Shall I then take the members of Christ and unite them with a prostitute? Never! Do you not know that he who unites himself with a prostitute is one with her in body? For it is said, the two will become one flesh. But he who unites himself with the Lord is one with him in spirit. Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a man commits are outside his body, but he who sins sexually sins against his own body. Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honour God with your body”.

Commenting on the above passage, Pastor Eric Nyamekye said that the verse 19 implies that believers are not their own. He explained that in the Kingdom of God, there is liberty but not freedom (as the NIV puts 2 Cor. 3:17). Freedom he said is not a Kingdom terminology. Liberty (used in the KJV version of 2 Cor. 3:17) means emancipation from bondage, but Freedom is emancipation and a willingness to do what you wish or want. But in Christ he said, we are born again to come into the King’s domain, meaning that as far as the King is concerned, there is nothing like freedom. We have liberty in Christ, because the legalism of the veil has been removed by Christ’s work on the cross. But that he said does not mean that you can do whatever you wish or want because you have come into a new Kingdom and the Holy Spirit has to guide you, and this does not call for freedom; it calls for liberty.

Pastor mentioned ‘license’ as another word for freedom, and explained license as the life controlled by self. Legalism is life controlled by the society, but liberty is life controlled by the Spirit. Freedom is therefore not a kingdom terminology, because we cannot have a king and still do what we want. “We are not born again just to do what we want or wish, but to do the Lord’s will because we are not of our own”. It is not about human rights, but the rights of the Spirit, he added.

Speaking on sex, he said that it is the most attractive word today. Newspapers selling sex scandals sell like hot cake. Adverts should at least have some sex touch if you really want to advertise for people to buy. People want to dress, talk and walk to look sexy, no wonder it is being legalized in most western countries. And so long as Africans think that white is better than black, these filth would be imported into our nation and nothing would be found wrong with it.

The literature entertainment on our TVs today are full of sex and immorality, he said. When he was a member of the Executive Council of the Youth Ministry, Pastor Nyamekye wondered why the youth desired programmes like “The Bold & the Beautiful”, “Days of our Lives: and “Sunset Beach”.  His discovery was the same for all the series, and it was about immorality; one person married to another but interested in another who is also interested in another’s spouse – immorality!  And Satan has arranged beautiful people to perform these plays for us, some of whom we even stupidly fall in love with just by sight. His prayer was that God would emancipate us to stay holy in these times.

Pastor Nyamekye said that it was time for believers to lead the world because WE ARE the Light of the world. Thus we shouldn’t be followers of what the world is doing. His conclusion about the TV series was that they were from the devil. And he asked this question “those of you who glued yourselves to it, what have you’ve gained”?

Several years ago he said, the first sex shop was opened in Berlin; a one – stop shop where you could have everything to excite you as far as sex is concerned was readily available, satisfying the inflamed passions of men. Today, sex shops are all over, yet nobody seems to say anything about it because there is no voice of God in the country any longer, he added. Movies – Ghanaian, Nigerian and even Indian have all become filthy, and they are telecast during day time. Though they write ‘18’ on them, they show them when the children are right at home “this is from the devil, it cannot come from God”. And little by little, our very foundations of belief are being shaken. What would the righteous do then, when the foundations are shaken? Is the world not going to push us away?

Pastor Nyamekye advised participants to arise and shine as soldiers of the cross, who lift up His royal banner because it must not suffer loss, for God is prepared to lead His army from victory unto victory. He encouraged the congregation to shine so that the glory would be manifested to the whole world. “Stand against sin and dare to be different”.

He said that men have filled the world today with sex to the extent that our very thoughts are full of sex. And in these times, whether or not you are married, it is all for you. ‘Mrs’ he said is no longer a wonderful title. Sex, Sex and Sex everywhere, yet nobody seem to be talking about it. “Today, it is very difficult to have a heterosexual relationship, and even the Anglican Church is shamefully ordaining homosexual Bishops – THAT IS A SHAME”!!!

In the older times he said, people were suspended after it had been discovered that they were pregnant. But in these times, only ‘fools’ would fall pregnant because many ‘aids’ have evolved to prevent that, giving many people the license to do filthy things. But God has an eye, and is watching, and would reward everyone according to his deeds, whether seen by the Pastor or not, he added.
Sex organs were not created by white men. Therefore, they don’t qualify to give us instructions concerning morality. No other person, book, institution or entity qualifies to teach man how to behave aside from the maker Himself. And He has his own instruction on sex. Pastor Nyamekye mentioned God’s two instructions on sex: (1) Absolute Chastity (thus fornication / sex before marriage is wrong) and (2) Absolute Fidelity (sex outside marriage / adultery is also wrong). He then went on to make four comments on the two standards of God.

First, he said that the standard of God is RIGHT for us. The Bible says in 1 Cor. 6:9, 10 that we should be careful because the sexually immoral would not have any place in the Kingdom of God. Thus if sexual immorality were right, those who do those things would have had a place in God’s Kingdom.

Secondly, the standard of God is GOOD for us. During the early years of the Russia revolution, they thought that anything God or anything Western should be discarded. And so they advocated for FREE SEX, ANYWHERE, ANYTIME, ANYPLACE. What do you think would happen if there is free sex, anytime, anywhere, anyplace? Two years later he said, they had to revoke that decision. And today, the sex life of Russians is much better than most of the Western states. “It took atheist Russia to experiment and discover that the standard of God for us is good”. Thus but for heaven, the standard of God would still have been good for us.

He condemned the statement A. B. Crentsil (a Ghanaian secular musician) made about God that he is just an old man who instructs after overeating, saying that such a statement is abominable. Many people think that God wants to spoil their pleasure, yet the God who made the nerves which trigger the feeling knows that we need it, but He is not careless about it because He is a wise God. So the standard of God is good for us in every wise, he added.

Pastor Nyamekye’s third point was that the standard of God is DIFFICULT (when approached with natural strength). The strongest man in the Bible, Samson, fell because of women. The strongest man in the spirit (arguably, David), the man after God’s own heart fell because of women. That strongest man in the mind, Solomon went toppling before women, meaning that the standard of God concerning sex is not low, and that the sex drive has a strong power. Yet if we want to follow that passion simply because the sex drive is powerful, it would bring us disgrace, he added. He mentioned about people like Tiger Woods who has fallen from glory to grind. When Bill Clinton is mentioned, all people remember is his immoral life with Monica Lewinsky.  And this confirms what the Bible says that any sin a man commits is outside his body, but sexual immorality is against our own bodies; like a tattoo which can never be erased!  It is not written on your shirt; otherwise you could have changed it. But it is written on your body and nothing can erase it.

But the fourth point he said was that even though the standard of God is difficult, it is POSSIBLE! With reference to his earlier passage in 1 Cor. 6:14, God raised Christ Jesus by His power, and would also raise us up. The standard of God is so high though, yet we do not have to ask God to bring His standard down, because He has made a provision to raise us up to His standard by the Holy Spirit. He raised Christ from the dead, and He would also raise us up to the standard He has set by the power of the Holy Spirit.

The song “Lord lift me up and let me stand” was raised, but the message couldn’t continue afterwards because of the mighty move of the Spirit which convicted many to seek the strength of the Holy Spirit in order to meet this high standard of God. Many were touched and the strength of God was released unto them.
