TWO KINDS OF FREEDOM

“If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed” (Jn. 8:36 KJV).

“…but through knowledge shall the just be delivered” (Proverbs 11:9 KJV).

Everyone who believes in the Lord Jesus has been delivered from the power of darkness and translated into God’ Kingdom of light and life (Col. 1:13), has been uprooted from the soil of Satan and transplanted into the courts of God’s own house (Ps. 92:13). They have been set free from the bondage of sin and brought into God’s eternal freedom! Halleluiah!

Yet God’s word reveals another kind of freedom which believers must enter into. In John 8:31,32, Jesus told the Jews who believed on Him to continue in His word for this kind of freedom –“Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free”. These people had already believed on Jesus, just like every other believer, and so they had received the first freedom just like all believers. Now Jesus told them to continue in His word to know the truth and by the knowledge of the truth they shall be made free. Clearly, this freedom is different from the kind of freedom we all received through faith in Christ Jesus! Halleluiah!

This second kind of freedom only comes to those who meditate on God’s word; who receive God’s truth into their spirits and live by them. Have you ever wondered why there are many believers in this world but not many of them function in truths like divine health, life above sin and even material prosperity? Yet God’s word tells us that all these and many others have been laid up for the benefit of all believers.

In Acts 20:32, the Apostle Paul made another remarkable statement concerning this second kind of freedom – “And now, brethren, I commend you to God, and to the word of his grace, which is able to build you up, and to give you an inheritance among all them which are sanctified”.  Paul was talking about this glorious inheritance of all – round prosperity our Father has given to us. And he commended and committed his audience to God’s word of grace, which would build them up and give them an inheritance among them that are sanctified. We can easily realize that even among those who are sanctified, only those who receive God’s word of truth, believe and live by it would be delivered into the vital experience of all of God’s rich inheritance for believers. Glory to God!

Dear one, because you received Jesus through faith, you’ve already received the first kind of freedom, essentially a legal freedom. But God’s word is revealing to us today, the second kind of freedom which would make you fully realize all of God’s promises in your life. It is the freedom which comes through God’s word, His word of truth. This word of truth would build you up in the faith till your faith can lay hold on all that God has ordained for you.

Go for God’s word of truth and let it be the fortification for your life, leading you into vital freedom!

PRAYER
Father, I thank you for word which reveals to me that you’ve given me freedom, and also want me to be released into eternal freedom of all vitality. I decide today to grow in your word of truth, that I may be built up in you to take unto myself all divine goodness laid up for me. In the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
